Janet B. Milstein is an actor, acting teacher, award-winning acting coach, best-selling author, series editor, and filmmaker. She received her MFA in Acting from Binghamton University in New York (SUNY), and her BA in Theatre with Distinction from the University of Delaware.
Janet has an extensive background in theatre, having performed at numerous theatres with a variety of companies, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the Organic Theater, Collaboraction, Bailiwick, The Artistic Home, ImprovOlympic, Tinfish Productions, Stage Left Theatre, Mary-Arrchie Theatre, Speaking Ring Theatre, Stockyards, Point of Contention, Women’s Theatre Alliance at Chicago Dramatists, Writers’ Block at the Theatre Building, Symposium at National Pastime Theater, Theatre Q, and more.
Janet has appeared numerous independent films, including the award-winning film Power Singles which she co-wrote with Barbara Lhota. She co-wrote, co-produced and acted in the film Blindsided which is now hitting the festival circuit. Janet also starred in the short film Spoiled, written and directed by Carter Martin, and acted in the feature film Normal, written and directed by Nicholas Richards. Janet appeared in the film Mr. Goodman by Pradeep Paga and recently acted in the webseries 3 Squares with Three Squares Productions and the short film Deprived with Red Brick Studios. Janet produced, directed, co-wrote and acted in Meredith's Magic Wand, the first film produced by the Chicago Female-Focused Film Meetup & Festival's film company, Bold Vision Films. Additionally, Janet is working on her full-length one-person show, Phone Sex Girl, with director Gina Buccola.
Janet has written, directed and produced a variety of independent films. Her film Not Scene (which she wrote and directed) was produced by Filmmakers in Action and her co-written, award-winning film Power Singles was produced by Hourglass Films. Janet, along with collaborator Barbara Lhota, co-produced and co-wrote the short film Blindsided. Janet also wrote, produced and directed the short film The Sleepover in association with Je Suis Talent and Glass City Films. After that, she co-wrote (with Barbara Lhota), directed, and produced Meredith's Magic Wand with her new film company Bold Vision Films. Janet produced and directed the film Sick Smelly Dirty Politics, which she co-wrote with Barbara Lhota. Most recently, Janet produced and directed the short films Where There's a Will... and The Survivors.
Janet is the Founder of the Chicago Female-Focused Film Meetup & Festival and Bold Vision Films. Janet is a co-organizer of the film group Filmmakers In Action. She is a co-founder of Fearless Flicks. Janet is also a member of Women in Film and the Chicago Acting in Film Meetup. Janet has represented her publisher, Smith and Kraus, Inc. at conferences such as The Association for Theatre In Higher Education (ATHE),The American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE), The Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA), and Florida State Thespians. Janet was a founding member and the Artistic Director of Symposium Theatre Company in Chicago.
