30-Day Monologue Workshop & Book

See Janet's Bio Here     See Janet's Books Here

"Janet Milstein came during iPOP training and allowed us to have a say on our material so it would be more us, and it came out good.  Because of her help, only 3 out of the Top Ten girls' monologues weren't from Atlanta. And I won "Best Monologue" in my age category!!!"

~ Marlon Hulett, Actor, Atlanta

Award-winning acting coach & best-selling monologue author, Janet B. Milstein will come to your school for one month to teach a very special Master Monologue Workshop for your students. Students will learn what a monologue is and Janet will introduce her winning method of breaking down and polishing monologues. In addition, students will be part of a special process in which they will be bringing new monologues to life!

Janet will write a new monologue book based solely on her experience of working with your students! She will listen to what students care about and what they think is important. She will write the monologues based on her interactions with them. Janet will then work the pieces with the students, edit, time, and rewrite them. The students will be welcome to express their ideas and their voices will be heard by thousands of readers of the published book!

The working title of this new monologue book series is "Winners Competition Series:" Here's the big plus for you: YOUR SCHOOL'S NAME WILL APPEAR AS THE BOOK'S SUBTITLE RIGHT ON THE FRONT COVER!* This is a huge selling/marketing tool for your school, since Smith and Kraus is far and away the premier monologue book publisher in America! And Janet is their all-time best-selling author! The book, with your school's name in its title, will be available for purchase everywhere young actors shop for books. This includes Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, Borders, The Drama Bookshop in NYC, Smith & Kraus' Website, internationally, etc.!!!

Students (full name) will be thanked in the book on a special acknowledgments page for both their participation in the workshop and for the creative inspiration which they provided!

The students will have use of these monologues before the rest of the world does. As they prepare for competition at iPOP!/IMTA or any other auditions, they will know that no one has ever heard these pieces before!

Any monologue contest winners that submit their achievement and headshot by the deadline will be noted in the book!

The book can also be done specifically for a a convention competition such as iPOP! or IMTA.

All students who take the workshop will be eligible to submit a letter, journal entry, or essay about their experience from which Janet will make selections for publication in the book!

Janet's workshop will be a fun, challenging, personalized experience for all who are involved, as well as a great credit to add to students' resumes!

Photos can be taken while Janet is working with your students for consideration for publication in the book!

   DIRECTING ACTORS WORKSHOP
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Understanding the Actor’s Process, Terminology, Script Analysis & How to Effectively Give Direction

This 3.5 hour workshop is designed for directors (or anyone) to learn more about the actor's process, concepts, terminology, and how to communicate better with actors in order to become better directors. This workshop leaves the technical aspects of the camera, lights, and sound aside to hone in on the important process of directing actors. As a result of this workshop, directors will learn to communicate more effectively with actors, improve their actor-director relationships, have a better understanding of the actor’s process, and learn how to get the results they want from their actors.

Participants will all be given a scene to analyze. The scene will be broken down by learning Acting Technique & Concepts. Participants will be led through the process of analyzing a script from an actor’s point of view (as well as making directing discoveries.) Script analysis of a scene is crucial to good acting and directing and participants will build their skills and understanding of differences in the ways those on the other side of the camera may approach their work.

Participants will learn tips on how to effectively (and non-effectively) communicate with actors when giving direction.

Volunteers will then work with actors & give direction as they perform the scene.

This workshop is open to anyone who would like to learn.  Writers, Actors, and Directors should find this workshop extremely valuable to their process.

Actors will sharpen their analytical and choice-making skills, as well as learn how to better take direction.

Participants will leave with a greater understanding of:

- how actors approach a script

- acting concepts and terminology

- how to communicate effectively with actors

- what kind of direction to avoid and to implement

- how to analyze a scene/script

- how to be a better director that actors will want to work with

The workshop is $16 per person in advance or $20 at the door.

The workshop will take place at:

The Riverview Tavern

1958 W Roscoe St

Chicago, IL 60657

(773) 248-9523

I look forward to seeing you there!
